2008 Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc

PRODUCTION NOTES
These were the last grapes to arrive in the 2008 harvest, in November. They had botrytis, and when they arrived they looked like someone had ground up newspaper and vinifera in a blender. Nonetheless, they had been on ice until their arrival, so they were ready to go directly into the press. We pressed them off and the juice that came out smelled so fragrantly of honeysuckle and lemon zest. This wine saw no oak; it stayed in stainless steel for the duration of its life until it was bottled.

WINEMAKER COMMENTS
Richard’s Vineyard – Located in Napa Valley, near Calistoga this is a small six-acre planting that in the right years gets Botrytis Cineria, often called Noble Rot. This little critter concentrates the sugar and acids by leeching the water from the grapes. 2008 was one of those special years. It’s located on sandy loam and a two-wire vertical trellis system.

The resulting wine shows rich honey and vanilla flavors, with a little tang of lemon zest.
