2007 Tannat, Solano County
PRODUCTION NOTES
Perfectly ripe grapes were gently crushed into small open-top fermentors with 10% whole cluster fruit. The must was then cold-soaked for 3 days at 45°F with a hand punch down occurring twice daily. The must was then warmed to 68°F and cultured D-80 and Syrah yeasts were used in separate fermentors. Following a warm fermentation, the must was gently pressed and settled for 3 days then inoculated for malolactic fermentation. The juice was then transferred to French oak barrels; the coopers include St. Martin, Vicard and Berthomieu. The wine was gently racked 3 times before being lightly filtered and bottled in April of 2009.
WINEMAKER COMMENTS
A lesser-known varietal, this robust wine has been referred to as “Petite Sirah on steroids” for a reason. This wonderful and unique wine smells and tastes like a BBQ thrown in a rose garden. This lovely example of Tannat offers big, dark fruit tempered with a healthy bit of tannin—this powerhouse is sure to delight!
